Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Isimeme Naomi Udu or better known as Hemlocke Springs is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. In late September of this year she released her new album titled “going…going…GONE!” Her music can be described as a mix between bedroom pop and 80s synth pop mashed together to create an awesome sound of pure fun that will make you want to dance.
Hemlocke Springs, along with Girl K gave us a thrill of letting it loose while performing on stage at Schubas Tavern on Sunday night, 10/8. Girl K, usually a band from Chicago, opened right at 8 and performed that night as a confident solo act that took over the stage despite being the only one on it. Her music reminded me of a poppy dance style with indie rock influence. The crowd gave her a warm welcome and had a fun time while she performed her new single Proven A Star.

After the keyboardist/bassist and the drummer took the stage, the crowd was buzzing with excitement for Hemlocke Springs to take the stage. She ran up to the mic with a beautiful floral dress and jumped right into her set. With songs like Stranger Danger!, Hevun, and The Train to Nowhere she got the crowd moving and dancing around the wood floor of the tavern.
Unlike her studio recordings each part of the song was brought alive on Sunday night, like eknee1 which is one of my personal favorites as I sang along with the crowd, “Anyone out there to love me, anyone out there to care for” as an epic breakdown commenced at the middle of the song and then the ending was just her ethereal voice echoing through the room.
Her final 3 songs went from going…going…gone!, to her Tik Tok famous tune Girlfriend and then closed with Server the Blight.
Hemlocke Springs brought her all on Sunday and the crowd noticed. She danced for us, got down for us, and was so thankful that she had this opportunity to perform for us. People in the crowd shouted out “I love you!” and “you’re so pretty!” and she said thank you each time someone gave a compliment to her with a big smile. I left this concert with a smile on my face and had to get a glass of water before walking back to the train because of how much she had me moving.
Hemlocke Springs is touring through the U.S and the rest of the world until Feb. 11 2024.
