Enumclaw “Does it For the Music” at Cobra Lounge

Article by Megan Bradley

Flashing colorful lights and passionate guitar jamming made Enumclaw at Cobra Lounge a night to remember. Enumclaw is an indie rock band composed of members frontman Aramis Johnson, drummer Ladaniel Gipson, lead guitarist Nathan Cornell, and bassist Eli Edward. Their name comes from the town of Enumclaw, Washington, a suburb of Tacoma where their origin story begins. Their sound is reminiscent of 90s rock, and as the self-proclaimed “Best band since Oasis” it’s not something they’re shy about either. Something about their sound feels nostalgic yet new. Enumclaw debuted their first single “Fast N All” in February of 2021, and have since released several other singles along with EPs Jimbo Demo in 2021, Park Lodge in 2022, and most recently These are Some B-Sides in 2023. Their debut album Save the Baby was released in October of 2022.

Cobra Lounge was quite the suitable venue for this show, with its grungy style and a room that seemed to be just big enough to fit the audience and stay intimate. Members of Enumclaw and all three opening acts enjoyed each other’s sets, standing right up dancing and singing along. The music was supplemented by colorful lighting and a bar that the audience meandered to between sets for a refreshment and some conversation. Enumclaw was confident and comfortable onstage, even taking a request from an audience member to play an unreleased song “This Light of Mine.” Another song highlight was “Jimmy Neutron,” one of their most popular releases, which got the audience swaying along. Many songs were off of their unreleased upcoming album, which was sold on blank CDs labeled “New Enumclaw LP” in sharpie, with an attached sticky note politely asking the purchaser not to leak the album online.

Enumclaw had three incredible openers to warm the audience up for this show, including A Cursecharm, Truth or Consequences New Mexico, and Graham Hunt. A Cursecharm started the show off with a grungy punk vibe. Truth or Consequences New Mexico brought amazing vocals to the stage with “Truth” being memorable for its lyricism. Graham Hunt had an amazing indie rock sound that incorporated samples into their live performance, and absolutely rocked the house with “Emergency Contact.”

Enumclaw will continue their Do it For the Music Tour in Toronto and Montreal in the next few days, heading along the East coast shortly after.
